Prayers for Marriage

Marriage is a sacred covenant that reflects Christ's love for the Church. Whether your marriage is thriving or struggling, new or seasoned, these prayers invite God into the center of your relationship. The couple who prays together draws closer to God—and to each other.

"Two are better than one... A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." — Ecclesiastes 4:9, 12

Prayer for Married Couples

Lord, we come before You as husband and wife, asking Your blessing on our marriage.

You brought us together. You witnessed our vows. You are the third strand that makes our cord strong. Be at the center of our relationship today and always.

Help us to love each other as You love us—patiently, kindly, selflessly. When we are irritated, give us gentleness. When we disagree, give us respect. When we are hurt, help us to forgive quickly.

Protect our marriage from anything that would harm it—from outside temptations, from our own selfishness, from the busyness that pulls us apart. Keep us faithful, in thought and action.

Deepen our love. Let it grow stronger with each passing year. Help us to cherish each other, to delight in each other, to be best friends as well as spouses.

Holy Family of Nazareth, pray for our family. Amen.

Prayer for a Troubled Marriage

Lord, our marriage is struggling. We are hurting. Something is broken between us, and we don't know how to fix it.

We don't know if we're praying this prayer together or if only one of us is reading these words. But You hear us either way. You see our pain. You know what went wrong.

Heal our marriage, Lord. Soften hardened hearts—starting with mine. Help us to communicate without attacking. Help us to listen without defending. Help us to forgive what seems unforgivable.

Remind us why we fell in love. Rekindle the flame that has grown cold. Help us to see each other through Your eyes—not as an enemy, but as the person we vowed to love.

If we need help—counseling, a priest, a mentor—give us the humility to seek it. Break our pride that says we can fix this alone.

We choose our marriage, Lord. We choose each other. We refuse to give up. Help us to rebuild. Amen.

Prayer for My Spouse

Lord, I lift up my spouse to You.

Bless them today. Give them success in their work. Grant them energy for their responsibilities. Protect them from harm and temptation. Bring them moments of joy.

Help me to be the husband/wife they need. Show me how to love them in the ways that speak to their heart. Give me eyes to see what I can do for them today.

Where I have failed them, give me the courage to apologize. Where they have hurt me, give me the grace to forgive. Keep resentment from growing in my heart.

Thank You for this person You have given me. Help me never to take them for granted. Amen.

Prayer for Those Seeking a Spouse

Lord, You said it is not good for man to be alone. If it is Your will for me to marry, lead me to the person You have prepared.

Guard my heart from settling for less than Your best. Help me not to rush ahead of Your timing or compromise my values out of loneliness.

Prepare me to be a good spouse. Work on my character. Heal my wounds. Teach me to love unselfishly now, in this season of waiting.

If marriage is not Your plan for me, help me to accept that with peace and to find fulfillment in other ways. But if it is Your plan, open the doors and make the path clear.

St. Joseph, who waited patiently for God's plan to unfold, pray for me. Amen.
